One of Italy’s oldest luxury leather goods brands, Valextra (a portmanteau composed of the Italian word for suitcase,”valiga”, and extra) was founded in Milan in 1937 by engineer, explorer, and entrepreneur, Giovanni Fontana. Fontana set up his workshop in the heart of Milan, installing floor-to-ceiling windows so he could look out onto the city and observe the daily commutes of its inhabitants. Valextra pieces are highly versatile, functional, and inspired by their birthplace, with its architectural juxtapositions and urban elegance. Their signature designs feature distinctive shapes, monochromatic colors, and lacquered piping and have been favored over the years by iconic names like Princess Grace of Monaco, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and Aristotle Onassis.
